Walt Disney sought to make his version of The Jungle Book a lot more upbeat than the Rudyard Kipling-penned. The songwriters wanted a jazz sound, with a Dixieland-like melody. When the idea for “I Wan’na Be Like You” was first thought up they married this with the image of an ape who swings from a tree, and he’s the king of the apes. And the famous scene was born. Steiff have triumphed with King Louie and Baloo capturing this iconic performance.
