The "Manekineko", a traditional Japanese charm, is said to bring good luck, especially in business. This is where the gesture of the raised, waving paw comes from. The linen coin that this lucky cat holds in its other paw is decorated with gold-embroidered characters that read "Kai un" and mean "Good luck!".
